Motherhood
To me the term Motherhood encompasses so many different meanings, from straightforward to sublime. It can be approached equally in as many ways, positive and negative. Lets just say its an intense relationship and endeavor no matter how you come into it- from the perspective of mother or child. No one gets away from the implications of motherhood.
For this little piece I chose the image of a bat holding its baby flying I imagine into the night. A bat is most often a misunderstood creature in western culture associated with fear and the unknown. But as with most things that is a narrow viewpoint . Bats are much more amazing in their worlds and how they contribute to our ecosystems.
For me my own journey with motherhood has felt akin to this image, flying though the dark needing to rely on senses I didn’t know I had clutching my child while they slept.
