Awakening
This is a mixed media piece combining a clay figure of a fawn curled up in a bed of greenery background made from hooked rug.
The fawn is carved from stoneware, fired and painted with foraged ocher pigments and then attached to a remnant I used to hook wool yarn in order to create an environment for the figure to rest in. This piece has a hanging mechanism or can rest on a flat surface.
The fawn is newly born, helpless, odorless, uniquely camouflaged and still in order to deceive predators. This has always fascinated me, the strategic ways animals have evolved in order to succeed.
Awakening is the time when things are suddenly new and there is so much potential- before anyone has noticed you are realized.
